Honoring Spontaneity
I am teaching my very first SAH method class on ZOOM this Sunday at 11am EST. SIGN UP HERE.
I am really excited to bring this work forward for you to experience. The topic for the class is called, “Honoring Spontaneity” I chose this theme for class to help loosen the rigidity in the body, reset the mind and open yourself up to new possibilities in life.Inviting more spontaneity supports mental health, creativity and resilience, making a potent doorway to our overall wellness.
Spontaneity is the ART of meeting each moment with presence and choice. A willingness to let go of choreography and stepping into what is REAL, RAW and ALIVE right now. But to honor spontaneity, we must first clear the inner clutter that resists it. We must soften patterns that keep us rehearsed, rigid or overly self-observant. Some common blocks are perfectionism, people pleasing, fear of judgement/shame, overthinking, guilt, grief and disconnection from our body ( living from the mind’s control center rather than the bodies truth).
As we practice Somatic Dance we use sound, breath, movement and mantra to purify what binds us. Movement comes from a practice of listening rather than performing. Each gesture, sway, shape becomes an offering to what wants to emerge.
When we embrace spontaneity it is normal to feel a sting of rebellion and excitement. Unstructured movement and communication reveal magic. It is LIBERATING to permit yourself to know the JOY in chasing amazement without over-cautiousness! Its a disruption that is necessary to birth change and transformation.
Spontaneity isn’t about being reckless; it’s about responding creatively instead of reactively. Spontaneous, playful experiences can act like nervous system training, helping you to move between activation and calm with more ease and flexibility. In somatic dance, this looks like allowing one unplanned gesture lead to the next and discovering that your body can improvise, express and survive being seen. When we give ourselves permission to play and give ourselves over to move without a plan, you are doing deep regulation work, even if it feels like, “just dancing”. Moving in new unscripted ways strenghtens brain flexibility by creating new neural pathways. You can relearn that it is safe to try, change, and respond to the moment.
If your routines fell tight, if your creativity feel flat or if a part of you is craving new ways to move ( in your body, in your life), come be with us for SUNDAY SERVICES! Every Sunday at 11am EST on zoom.If you know anyone whom you feel would love this work or needs this in thier lives, please pass along.
I hope to create a community on zoom with this consistent day/time. Ideally we would be together in a room together…and that is a goal.
A few thoughts on prep before class and after. Don’t eat or have too full of a belly before class. Eating AFTER class is reccomended. Come HYDRATED. Wear clothing that feels good to move freely in. Take your class in a private space where you can be loud, make sound and move around.
If you want deepen this work for yourself you can journal before class on the topic. Consider your relationship to spontaneity. Take a moment to sit quietly and listen deeply. Then do 10 min of stream of conciousness writing on the topic. How you feel about the idea of it, what blocks you from it…just allow yourself to verbally “vomit” on the page. Don’t think too much just express through continous writting. There will be many opportunities in class to bring these blocks to the “fire”. (Not to burn but to ALCHEMIZE)
After class you may want to give yourself another bit of time to write in reflection of what came up in class. Eating something is a really great way to ground yourself after class.
SEE YOU IN THE ETHERS!!!!!
much love,
LESLIE
